INIX Technologies Holdings Bhd (INIX) has formed a strategic partnership with local durian producer, Duria Manufacturing Sdn Bhd to venture into the lucrative durian industry.
INIX Executive Director Siva Kumar Kalugasalam said that INIX will help to secure the supply chain for Duria which includes 5,000 tonnes of frozen Musang King durians, 2,000 tonnes of durian paste and 1,000 tonnes of Musang King pulp over the next 5 years.
“In return, Duria will be able to focus on its upstream vertical integration campaign,” he said.
The 2 partners have already planned to build 3 new primary processing plants with advanced technology with one already identified to be in Perak.
Describing the lucrativeness of durian industry, Duria CEO Wong Woei Ming said the Musang King durian wholesale price is currently at RM60 (US$14.70) per kg while its annual average price for 2020 is expected to be at RM40 (US$9.80) per kg. In addition, the average price of durian paste is currently at RM50 (US$12.20) per kg and Musang King pulp at RM100 (US$24.50) per kg.
Duria had invested heavily in high-tech equipments including liquid nitrogen quick-freezing machines, semi-automatic fruit opening machines, pulp production vacuum technology and high-pressure sterilisation fruit puree to achieve the highest production efficiency while ensuring optimal food safety and superior quality of its products.
Wong said Duria has also developed an innovative refrigerated fresh durian pastry and Musang King mooncake to cater to the growing global demand, adding that currently, Duria’s products are sold only to the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Duria is planning to go public by 2022 as it plans to internationalise the brand and attract more foreign investments. No further details were released.
