SCG Chemicals Co (SCG) has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kao Industrial (Thailand) Co. and Dow Thailand Group to develop eco-friendly packaging solutions.
The 3 companies will collaborate to develop packaging solutions that have multiple sustainability benefits. The packaging is intended to be developed for Kao, a Japanese consumer products manufacturing company, which is planning to use the new solution for a variety of its products in Thailand, as part of its goal of lowering carbon footprint.
The companies will develop new materials and leverage various technologies to design packaging that is easily recyclable. Such solutions include rigid and flexible packaging, as both are capable of maintaining the required properties to safeguard the products inside while providing convenience to consumers.
SCG Executive Director Pisan Uawithya said, “In this collaboration with Kao, SCG is ready to bring expertise in the design and development of bottles and packaging bags with green plastic innovations from SCG GREEN POLYMER, which encompasses 4 main solutions namely Reduce, Recyclable, Recycle, and Renewable.”
Dow Thailand President Chatchai Luanpolcharoenchai said, “With our expertise in Thailand and Dow Pack Studio in Singapore, combined with our innovative plastics such as INNATE, ELITE, DOWLEX, and Dow PCR (REVOLOOP), we will help Kao develop packaging bags designed for recyclability that reduce the impact on the environment and meet the needs of consumers.”
The latest collaboration marks a crucial milestone in Kao’s journey to achieve its sustainability goals, including attaining carbon neutrality by 2050.
The effort is also in line with SCG and Dow’s commitment to minimise their own environmental impact and develop more sustainable alternatives for consumers in Thailand.
Earlier on, SCG and SCG Packaging (SCGP) have also signed an MoU with Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company to launch a green packaging initiative.
Presently, 99.9% of CP Foods’ packaging is either reusable, recyclable, or compostable. Through this collaborative endeavor, the hope is to further amplify CP Foods’ positive impact on the environment, elevating Thailand’s packaging industry efficiency.
In this alliance with CP Foods, SCGP brings to the table its rich expertise and technological know-how in packaging— from paper pulp to sustainable polymers, all tailored for CP Foods’ production dynamics.
