According to the US Commerce Department data, the top destinations for US cheddar cheese exports in 2022 were Japan, South Korea, Australia, Mexico and the Philippines.
Its exports grew 79% year-on-year with overall sales value recorded at US$398 million in 2022. Japan is the US biggest market with a customs export value of US$118 million followed by South Korea (US$45 million), Australia (US$43 million), Mexico (US$33 million) and the Philippines (US$18 million). Overall, Asian countries like Japan, South Korea and the Philippines recorded the highest growth in terms of exports at 107%, 110% and 77% respectively.
The United States boasts of more than 600 varieties of cheese and there are more than 1,000 licensed artisan, specialty and farmhouse cheesemakers producing handmade, naturally flavored or fresh-from-the-farm cheeses.
