The Coca-Cola Co. has recently added a new variant to its existing Sprite drinks in Malaysia as it seeks to appeal to consumers looking for lower-sugar and functional beverages.
Sprite Lemon+ is a zero-sugar variant that also contains vitamin B3 and Malaysia will be the 3rd country after Thailand and Philippines to launch this product.
Carbonated drinks are often associated with high sugar and unhealthy and the new Sprite drink aims to change this image as consumers are becoming more health conscious. GlobalData recent consumer survey in Malaysia found that 65% of respondents closely associated low-sugar products with a healthy lifestyle. In addition, 58% mentioned that they checked the sugar content of a product before purchasing it.
Sprite Lemon+ also attracts consumers who spent a lot of their time outdoors in the current endemic and will consider drinking it to alleviate physical and mental fatigue as the product contains vitamin B3.
For consumers who want to be healthy while at the same time enjoy a sip of carbonated drink, Sprite Lemon+ is the answer to their constant craving.
Sales of carbonated soft drink in Malaysia grew by 11.1% in value terms in 2022 and is forecase to grow by 8.8% in 2023. The low-calorie segment however is projected to outperform and record double-digit growth.
