The Indonesian Ministry of Industry has unveiled plan to kickstart a new data collection information system for the halal industry called the ‘Saliha’ in January 2024.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang said the Saliha app is the main requirement for a free halal certification application in Lembaga Pemeriksa Halal Kementerian Perindustrian, a government body for Halal Inspection. The app was developed by the Industry Ministry and aimed at easing data collection and selection assistance of Halal Industry Certification in 2023.
The Indonesian ministry is giving special attention to the halal industry as it has huge potential in Indonesia and globally. Indonesia was ranked 3rd at the Global Islamic Economy Indicator Ranking 2023 behind Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.
