Nestle Vietnam has entered the popcorn category with its new Air Popcorn products targeted at the growing number of younger consumers who snack.
Vietnam has one of the highest growth in terms of consumption of snacks in Asia and companies are looking to innovate and introduce healthier snacks with local taste and preference for the urban consumers.
Air Popcorn is produced from whole-grain fibre-rich corn from US, and made using an oil-less air popped technology. The 3 flavours made available in Vietnam include Milk Coffee, Milk Tea and Fruit Yogurt. According to Nestle, these flavours are familiar to Vietnamese consumers and the company tapped into the growing popularity of bubble milk tea in this region.
Nestle hopes to target students and young adults between 15 to 25 years old who snack but yet conscious of the product health contents.
The popcorn products will be made available at major retailers like CoopMart, Circle K stores and other supermarkets, convenience stores and minimarts nationwide in March 2020. The recommended retail price is at Dong 20,900 (US$0.90) for a 40g pack. Air Popcorn will be initially available only in Vietnam, but there are plans to export it soon.
Nestle said younger consumers do not follow the traditional 3 main meals, instead they prefer smaller 5-6 meals throughout the day. They also consume snacks more, on average 8 times per week, and spend approximately US$0.70 each time.
