Functional ingredient producer, Sensus has been given the green light by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health for the health claim that Sensus’ chicory root fibre increases the bifidobacteria in the intestine.
The Netherland producer manufactures chicory inulin and chicory oligofructose, which are dietary fibres that contribute to a healthy intestinal microbiome. These dietary fibres enhance growth of beneficial microbes bifidobacteria in the intestinal tract, which underlies their prebiotic effects such as digestive health. The ingredients are also effective fat and sugar replacers.
The application with supporting scientific evidence was provided by Sensus in cooperation with its Business Partner DKSH Thailand and applies exclusively to Sensus Frutafit inulin and Frutalose fructo-oligosaccharides from chicory roots, which are suitable for various applications including in breakfast cereals. This new health claim will also be an asset for food manufacturers as they seek to introduce healthier products to Thai consumers.
Paul Vennik, Director of Marketing & Sales, Sensus said, “These naturally-sourced chicory inulin and oligofructose dietary fibres are extremely suitable for application in dietary products that can contribute to consumers health.”
Manufacturers can now utilise the following claim on their product packaging and all advertising materials, according to the Thai FDA guideline – ‘Inulin / Fructo-oligosaccharide / Oligofructose / Short-chain inulin from chicory helps to increase bifidobacteria in the intestine’.
Songsin Sungkhawaetai, General Manager, Food & Beverages at DKSH Thailand said, “As there are only a few health claims approved in Thailand, we are extremely pleased with the approval of the health claim for Sensus chicory root fibre.”
