Barentz International has expanded its activities in taste and nutrition further with the recent acquisition of 2 leading Dutch-based spice specialists, Royal Polak Spices – a leading business-to-business cinnamon specialist, and De Weerd Spices – specialist in natural taste development and innovation for the European food industry.
The acquisition of both companies is aligned with Barentz’ strategy to become a global leader in the life science industries, and to further develop taste and nutrition knowledge, products and services within the Human Nutrition sector.
Royal Polak Spices is considered the No.1 cinnamon specialist in the world. It serves the food industry across Europe, from the bakery and pastry segments to the dairy, beverages and (sports) nutrition markets. With over 150 years of experience Polak uses a wide range of cinnamon varieties and other spices to create the unique tastes their customers desire.
De Weerd Spices specifically adds value in natural taste development and innovation, with a focus on meat, snacks and vegetarian products. Owner of both companies, Jac Sars will become an advisor and Board Member at Barentz Group.
According to Sars, it has been a difficult decision to sell off the shares, however he is confident that Barentz will help to grow and internationalise the business, with the US and South America as the next growth destination.
Established in 1953, Barentz has operations in more than 60 countries with a strong presence in Europe and Asia, and a growing presence in North America and Latin America.
