Naturex’s proprietary full spectrum cranberry ingredient, Flowens® may help alleviate frequent urination, a bothersome symptom of overactive bladder in women, according to latest findings published in the Journal of Urology. The publication comes after Flowens® was named Ingredient of the Year – Healthy Ageing at the 2020 NutraIngredients Awards.
Conducted by researchers at Weill Cornell Medicine, the randomised, double-blind placebo-controlled human clinical trial demonstrated a significant effect for Flowens® in healthy women aged 18-60 over a 6-month period. Women taking a daily 500mg dose of Flowens® experienced 2 fewer daily episodes of frequent urination than those in the placebo group.
The results of the trial demonstrate the positive impact of cranberry consumption on overactive bladder (OAB) in women. OAB is not a disease but a constellation of symptoms. OAB effects more than 30 million women and men aged over 40 in the US alone. According to some studies, its prevalence range from 9% to 43% in women and 7% to 27% in men. OAB symptoms can greatly affect a woman’s quality of life.
These findings build on the positive results of a previous study that demonstrated the benefits of Flowens® for reducing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men. This latest trial provides more clear evidence of the efficacy of this proprietary ingredient when consumed to improve urinary tract health.
Dan Souza, Global Product Manager of Naturex said, “This new study involving women widens the potential of our full spectrum cranberry product by demonstrating that it offers benefits for a further health condition that affects a completely different demographic group.” Flowens® can now have a broader application not only for men but for women as well.
