The latest research compiled by YouGov Surveys showed that roughly half (51%) of consumers in Singapore considered themselves as meat eaters. Around 18% belong to the category of flexitarians who eat primarily plant-based diet with occasional meat and seafood. Only a small percentage (5%) adopt a fully plant-based diet.
Meanwhile, women (21%) are slightly more than men (16%) to be flexitarians. Consumption of meat is higher among Gen Z (62%).
The research also found that taste is the top priority for meat eaters and pescetarians (eat seafood only) when deciding on food to consume, ahead of its health benefits. The reverse is however true for flexitarians.
The research was conducted in October 2023 covering 1,027 Singaporeans.
