Kemin Industries has received approval from the Thai Food and Drug administration (TFDA) for its beta-glucan ingredient for immune support – BetaVia™ Complete – which can be categorised as a Novel Food in Thailand.
BetaVia Complete is derived from Euglena gracilis, Kemin’s proprietary strain of algae known for its high level of beta-1,3-glucan and protein content, which also contains essential fatty acids. After a thorough review of BetaVia Complete’s safety for human consumption, TFDA has allowed its use in food supplements as a source of beta-glucan at a dosage of 375mg per day.
Masafumi Hashimoto, Director of Sales – APAC, Kemin Human Nutrition and Health said, “We are incredibly proud that BetaVia Complete has successfully passed TFDA’s rigorous safety evaluation. This achievement is a testament to the unparalleled strength of the dossier Kemin Human Nutrition and Health submitted to TFDA. Our product delivers exceptional benefits to our customers and meets the highest safety standards, and we stand by its quality.”
Kemin Human Nutrition and Health’s BetaVia product line has been clinically tested to support the immune system while protecting against oxidative stress. In addition to approval by TFDA, BetaVia has also achieved GRAS designation status in the US and as a Novel Food in the EU. All BetaVia products are kosher, halal, vegetarian, gluten-free, allergen-free and GMO-free, and they meet consumer demand for natural, science-based, functional ingredients.
BetaVia can also be complemented with other immune-support ingredients for better competitive advantage and differentiation in the market. In addition to naturally supporting immune health, BetaVia helps train the body’s natural defenses, supports respiratory tract health and protects intestinal barrier integrity.
Xuemei Zhang, Senior Manager – Regulatory Affairs and Technical Services, Kemin Human Nutrition and Health said, “TFDA’s approval of BetaVia Complete is a significant achievement for Kemin Human Nutrition and Health in Asia, and it underscores Thailand’s commitment to promoting healthy eating habits. Euglena gracilis has already gained popularity in the US and Europe as a natural enhancer of immunity and gut health, making it an excellent option for health-conscious consumers in Thailand seeking innovative ways to improve their well-being.”
