A cooperation agreement was recently signed by a Singaporean firm, with the assistance of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Singapore, to create a mega plant and distribution hub in the rapidly-growing Tashkent region.
The online signing ceremony was graced by the Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, Ibrokhim Abdurakhmanov and the Chairman and CEO of the Board of Directors of Wilmar International Limited, Kuok Khoon Hong.
The project involves the establishment of a mega plant in Tashkent region for producing flour products, vegetable oils, and high-protein feeds with an initial project cost of US$100 million in direct investment from Wilmar International Limited. The project’s feasibility study will be completed in the first half of 2024.
The construction of this plant will provide a strategic opportunity to include Uzbekistan in the global Wilmar supply chain, and the development of the distribution center will position Uzbekistan as a significant regional and global exporter to the markets of Central Asia and the Middle East and other countries.
